SEND and Inclusion
"Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities(SEND)receive highly effective support for their learning and development. Leaders collaborate closely with parents, and with external agencies to ensure pupils receive the additional help they need. All pupils with SEND work diligently in the classroom with the support of well-trained support staff. Teachers adapt the curriculum well in all subjects." (Ofsted November 2022) |
At Highfields Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child can participate fully in all aspects of school life. We believe that all pupils, regardless of need, have the right to experience success, develop confidence, and feel valued as part of our school community.
Inclusion is central to our ethos. We strive to create an environment where every child is supported to engage in learning and wider school activities, with a strong focus on celebrating individual strengths and nurturing personal growth.
High‑quality adaptive teaching underpins our approach to meeting the needs of all learners. Staff use a wide range of strategies to ensure that lessons are accessible, engaging, and appropriately challenging for every child. Through early identification and ongoing monitoring, we work to understand any emerging barriers to learning and respond promptly.
Our first layer of support is effective classroom practice, including adapted teaching to meet specific individual needs. Where further help is required, we provide a range of targeted interventions delivered by skilled support staff. Children’s progress, wellbeing, and engagement are closely monitored through our One Planning approach, following the assess–plan–do–review cycle.
We recognise the vital role of parents and carers as partners in supporting children’s learning. We value the insight families bring and work closely with them to understand each child’s needs, plan provision, and celebrate achievements. When appropriate, we also collaborate with a range of external agencies and professionals to ensure children receive the specialised support they need.
