Trauma Perceptive Practice
Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) is the Essex approach to understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing. It promotes a shift in values and mindsets to understand that most behaviours are needs driven and a form of communication. TPP focuses on understanding the stress response and how important it is for us to teach and practice self-regulation and resilience.
At Highfields we promote an environment which encourages a sense of belonging and the development of safe and trusted relationships. TPP creates an underlying culture of mutual respect and support where we practice:
- Compassion and kindness instead of blame and shame
- Hope instead of hopelessness
- Connection and belonging rather than disconnection
All staff at Highfields Primary School have received TPP training. We expect our staff to demonstrate the core values of TPP principles with our pupils. TPP principles are reflected in our Behaviour and Relationships Policy, which recognises that the good relationships we create with children will have the greatest influence on their interactions with us and one another.
