Highfields Primary School

Mrs Deane Autumn term 2020

Welcome to Year 5 (Hare) class.

Year 5 is a busy and exciting year, which will be full of new challenges, experiences and a few surprises!

All the Year 5 staff are looking forward to sharing the learning opportunities we have at Highfields.

During the Autumn term, our history focus is Ancient Egypt, so we will discover what life was like around 5,000 years ago in this part of the world.

Have a look in the English resources folder to find suggestions for books to read       in Year 5. When you have read a book from the list, why not write a review?                 There is a book review sheet (also in the English resources folder),                                                         or you could create your own.

As well as enjoying a book on your own, you could also read with an adult or listen to an audio book.

Have a great year.

Mrs Deane and the Year 5 staff:

Mrs Gee, Miss Wright & Mrs Coultharde-Steer

Pupils in Hare class made memory boxes based on the theme of Remembrance.

Pupils in Year 5 spent the day discovering more about Ancient Egypt as part of their history topic.

The children enjoyed a full day of activities, which included making canopic jars, writing with reed pens and carving shabtis. Being able to learn skills as ‘apprentices’ in a variety of workshops really brought everything they have been studying to life.

After reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, pupils in Hare class created their own Iron Person.
