Years 1 and 2
Welcome to the Spring Term 2019!
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
Please find below a few helpful reminders
Please remember that your child needs to come into the school building by themselves, between 8.40am and 8.50am. Any messages can be given to the ladies on the door or a note popped into their book bags/folders. School for KS1 finishes at 3pm, please make sure you are there to collect your child at that time, and give us a big wave to make yourself known to the new class teacher. If for any reason you are running late please phone the school office to let them know. If your child is being picked up by another adult you must write a note to let us know. Your child will need to have named water bottles in school each day. Please remember to name all uniform and PE kits. PE kits will need to be in school every day as PE days will vary. These will be sent home at the end of each half term to be washed. Please refer to the uniform and PE policy for full list of uniform or ask your child’s teacher.
This term our topic will be 'The Romans' We will be learning about key historical events, life in Roman times and the impact that the Romans had on our local area. We will be visiting Colchester Castle to help enhance the learning. We are always grateful of the voluntary contributions of parents towards the cost of the trips as otherwise these would not be able to go ahead.
Following the successful Great Fire of London fire engine sessions with the High School we have been busy planning a follow up design and technology challenge for our Roman topic.
The Year 1 children will be showing some of this work as part of their class assembly at the end of the Spring Term.
We will be sending home a choice of home learning activities for you to enjoy with your child. In school we have a high expectation of presentation and taking a pride in all that we do. We expect this to be maintained at home, during their home learning activities. Please support your child in completion of any tasks sent home including those online which support our maths curriculum. Any written homework will need to be completed in pencil. Please remind your child to include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. It is also important that your child uses their neatest handwriting.
Please find below documentation regarding expectations for this year. We look forward to seeing our Year 2 parents for the SATs meeting on Tuesday 8th January and later in the term at the pupil progress meetings. Don't forget you can always pop in to one of the open door sessions this term as well as the Easter craft morning.
