ESSEX CHILDREN'S UNIVERSITY GRADUATION 2018
On Saturday 10th November, children who achieved 30 hours or more of extra curriculum learning with the Essex Children’s University attended their Graduation ceremony. The event was held at The University of Essex, where pupils received their certificates in front proud parents and families.
Congratulations to Theo S, Esther H, Isabella B, Thomas C, Emily C, Amelie M, Pasha B, Amy H, Isaak S and Jacob H, who all earned an award.
Of the pupils graduating this year, nine of them achieved over 100 hours of learning outside the classroom, with seven children receiving either a diploma, degree or post graduate award for collecting over 200 hours in their passports.
Both Mrs Cook and Mrs Deane were delighted to be at the Graduation ceremony to celebrate the children’s achievements.
The message from Debbie Bennett, manager of the Children’s University, is one which we also whole-heartedly support at Highfields.
“ Our work encourages children to try new activites and unfamiliar experiences. To be passionately curious, and have fun whilst learning. To develop those skills and talents we would like to see more of in all our communites: resilience, adaptability, collaboration, self-confidence and self-belief.”
Essex University Challenge
15 children from Year 6 spent a day at Essex University. This was part of the University Challenge programme, designed to promote aspirations and self-esteem amongst primary school students whilst also raising their awareness of higher education.
The children took part in a treasure hunt around the campus which visited the library, computing and sports facilities, had a creative storytelling session and spent time observing and discussing pictures in the Creative Landscape art exhibition. At the end of the day, there was a graduation ceremony with caps and gowns, certificates and photographs.
